According to some critics in the industry, the days of MMORPG games is over and the reason is people do not have that much time to deal with the needed long hours. Well, more MMOs are getting released each year and on top of that, these games are receiving the best Kickstarter campaign supports. Chronicles of Elyria is one of these games and it is trying to be different from other MMORPG games. Soulbound Studios received nearly 8 million dollars for support and this is one of the biggest numbers we have seen. We are expecting at least an alpha this year for Chronicles of Elyria. Let us check the details of the game.

First of all, quests will be specific to your character. The quests will be dependent on where you are and what you are doing. There will be mini-stories in each place you visit. The developers called this Storyfinding and stated ” “Storyfinding.” Like the GPS on your phone, the AI guides the players to the next way-point in the story, giving us the ability to maintain a tight narrative, while giving you the freedom to choose which path to take.” Of course, it depends on how this system is implemented in the game, however, if it is neat and not too complicated it does look like an interesting way to immerse players into the game.

The game has some survival elements in it also. There is a finite number of resources and players will need to take care of themselves. There is hunger, thirst, and weather that can affect you as well. These environmental challenges will affect the quests by the looks of it. The harsher the weather the bigger the prize. There is also a governmental system in the game and players need to be careful all the time, what seems like a safe situation may not be safe at all.

As we have said before each Elyria world is different and has a finite number of resources. This means whatever you have in the game you will have to use them wisely. The economy of the game also closed and player dependant. Like most MMOs players will be able to gather raw material and later turn it into something valuable and become a merchant. However, even if you are not a merchant you can become a bodyguard to a merchant to earn some money in Chronicles of Elyria. Also crafting is different and players actually need to craft items with extreme precision, it depends on your reflexes and your hand to eye coordination.

Another interesting aspect of Chronicles of Elyria is the Souls mechanic. Players have souls and while their souls are immortal their bodies can age and die. If you die you will start a new character with your own soul. Players will not be able to keep their skills however, you will be able to develop those skills much faster. The game has a microtransaction system for souls. Purchasing the game grants you 1 soul and if you die, you will need to repurchase the soul.
