Star Wars: The Old Republic is set in the Star Wars universe and is the fastest-growing MMO ever created; the MMORPG has a free-to-play hybrid business model with a subscription option available for the more dedicated players which also offers them exclusive features. Since the original release in 2011, there have been several expansion packs and large updates for the game.

The Star Wars MMO is set during a time of peace between the Sith Empire and Galactic Republic; the game is set 300 years after the events of the previous Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic games and over 3000 years before the Star Wars films. During this time the Jedi are being held responsible for the Sith during the Great Galactic War and as a result they choose to relocate to Tython where the Jedi Order was initially founded.

The game puts significance focus on the story and is very narrative driven; the story revolves around the Jedi Order and Galactic Republics struggle to maintain control of their core worlds while the Sith plan their downfall and expand the Sith Empire. There is conflict across many planets due to the political issues and civil wars that have begun as a result of it all.

Players have the option to join either of the main factions; the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. Regardless of the faction the player chooses, they can also have a morality of either light or dark with both factions; this feedom is also extended to the range of playable classes in the game such as Humans, Zabrak and Chiss. Each faction has different classes which also have their own storyline which can be affected by the players’ moral choices; though the classes are different each faction reflects the other. The available classes include Sith Warrior and Jedi Knight.

There are many options for combat and PvP zones across the servers; players can decide if they wish to fight other players. Combat can be done from Space Ships, Galactic Starfighters and also in close melee combat. Outside of the storylines there are many group missions that fall under different names. Flashpoints are four person missions where the group takes on hordes of enemies and large bosses and Operations has eight to sixteen players working together in much harder scenarios.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is a story driven MMORPG where the players actions can influence their own story; this game is perfect for players who love detailed stories and choice based games. It’s great for people who are looking for a social game to play thanks to the group based missions players can take up however, these are not necessary which also means this is great for solo players. There are quite a few different PvP areas and players can enter them whenever they wish. It’s a great MMORPG with a strong fan base still and Star Wars fans are sure to love it.
