Developer: Square Enix
Publisher: Square Enix
Final Fantasy XIV is a MMORPG set in the Final Fantasy universe and acts as the 14th entry to the main Final Fantasy series; it is the second MMORPG in the series, the first being Final Fantasy XI.
The original version of the game was responded to extremely negatively when it was released in 2010 so the game was re-vamped and re-released under the name Final Fantasy XIV: A Real Reborn. The game requires that player purchase a copy and pay a monthly subscription fee also.
Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn is set in the world of Hydaelyn which is a planet made up of three sprawling continents with a variety of environments and climates. The game itself takes place in the region of Eorzea with four main areas controlled by different nations; the Garlean Empire is militaristic and has conquered the southern continent, it also has darker plans to tear the moon from the heavens and hurl it down to the world. The people of the world are desperate to stop this, they pray to the Gods however this only unleashes an ancient terror which was filled with rage and ultimately changed the world forever.
The game is set five years after those events and the player is an adventurer making their way in the new world.
Players have six humanoid races to choose from when creating a character, each races has clans for the player to choose from and also gender variations available for each. The races include Humans, Elves and Demonic races. There are 18 different classes available and the system is very flexible, players can swamp between any of the classes by just swapping their equipped weapon or tool.
Character customization is extremely detailed with many different options from preset appearances to sliders and also a wide variety of colors; no two characters will look the same unless the player is copying another characters appearance on purpose.
Combat in A Real Reborn is mostly based on parties with battle content requiring parties of a specific size; dungeons require parties of four with eight players for boss battles. There is an automated system that sorts players into parties for selected instanced combat across the different servers and also a Party Finder mechanic where players can recruit others for any kind of content. There are guilds to join and also PvP areas however the PvP zones usually lack players.
